www.bush-baby.com

+ The carrier bag and side pocket on the hip belt are great additions. There’s a removable mini-rucksack/changing bag, a comfortable harness and foot loops.

– The sun canopy can be tricky to fit, especially with cold hands, and the base is not that stable for (un)loading the child.

Verdict: Thoughtfully designed, the Bushbaby’s rain cover was the most effective of all the carriers tested.

Easy access to the child harness, which fixes at shoulder level, and the hip belt and harness are well padded...

Weight 3kg, £150
(+ £40 for sun shade and
rain cover)
www.macpac.co.nz

+ Features include: padded grab handle on top, pocket mirror and a secure zip pocket on hip belt. There’s easy access to the child harness, which fixes at shoulder level, and the hip belt and harness are well padded.

– You have to take the pack off to fit the rain cover and we found it hard to get a good fit without gaps where the rain and wind get in. The foot frame at the base is awkward and only works if you empty out the contents of the main compartment first. The sun shade is cumbersome to store.

Verdict: Not an intuitive pack to use and several features make life harder.
