Wessex Wanderer saved
The future of a popular rail rambles programme in southwest England has been assured after its walks leaders rallied to save it. The Wessex Wanderer scheme offers free public walks from stations on the Heart of Wessex (Bristol to Weymouth) line, led by Ramblers members from Avon, Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. With the threat of funding being cut in 2009, the walks leaders grouped together and raised funds to continue the programme from May to October with help from First Great Western and the local Community Rail Partnership.
