Scottish forests sell-off scrapped

scotland_forestsControversial plans to lease out chunks of Scotland’s Forestry Commission land to private investors have been axed after protests from access groups and other interested parties. The Scottish government’s intention was to use the money raised to plant new trees to off-set Scotland’s carbon emissions, but other proposals will now be considered, including joint ventures with private developers to build windfarms, hydro and biomass schemes on Forestry Commission land.
