Help put London on the map

The Ramblers warns that London’s Historic network of footpaths – including parts of the Thames Path National Trail – are at risk. Unlike every other city in England and Wales, where councils are compelled to draw up ‘definitive maps’ under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, inner London boroughs are not required to record their footpaths. This means footpaths can easily be disregarded, blocked and built across because inner London councils have no legal obligation to protect them.

Please add your details below to sign up to the petition, asking councils to create and maintain definitive maps which depict all rights of way in inner London. This will ensure the paths you love are protected against development or obstruction.

This is a vitally important campaign. Good luck and let us know if we can do anything to help.

I think a retaining paths, and even developing new ones that join up through the capital would be a great asset for future generations.

I wonder how many routes have already been lost?

The River Thames flows down to the Barrier and continues past the City to the Sea – but the Thames Path does not! The existing paths along the north bank need to be connected, even where a river crossing might not yet be possible a path could be made continuous. The secret British Gas site frontage at Becton needs to be dealt with positively.
