New walkers hot for Get Walking Day
Over 4,000 people joined Ramblers-led walks across Britain on 22-23 May for Get Walking Day, on what was the hottest weekend of the year. More than 200 short, easy walks were laid on for the public, kicking off with a ‘fun day’ launch event at Birmingham’s Shire Country Park run by the local Get Walking Keep Walking project. Organiser Sameena Parvaz said: “We had so much fun – especially the kids. One lady came along who had lived in Moseley all her life and said she had no idea how beautiful her area was.” Eight hundred new members signed up to the Ramblers on a special £1 offer made especially for the event.
