Golden opportunity

Picture-3Looking for an excuse to go for a walk this weekend? No, we didn’t think you’d need one! But here’s a tasty one anyway: your chance to search for buried treasure and win £3,000 – not to mention a crate of beer!

It’s all part of the ‘Worth Walking For’ competition from family brewery Daniel Thwaites, which aims to inspire people to follow in the footsteps of the great Alfred Wainwright to get outside, explore the countryside and discover what’s on their doorstep.

The wiley brewers have hidden a ‘Golden Bottle’ of their Thwaites Wainwright ale, which takes its name from Alfred Wainwright – a true inspiration to all fell walkers throughout the UK due to his passion and enthusiasm for the Lakeland fells. Alfred Wainwright became a household name thanks to his hand drawn and hand written pictorial guides which were recently made into the BBC TV series, Coast to Coast.

“It’s simple,” explains Lee Williams, Marketing Manager at Daniel Thwaites, “All you have to do is log on to www.worthwalkingfor.com and select a walk. Whilst on the walk, take a photo of one of the listed landmarks. Once the walk is completed  log back on, upload the photo, answer a few leading questions and click on a map to guess where the virtual bottle is hidden. The person who correctly guesses the secret location of the bottle will be entered into the prize draw for £3,000.”

Thwaites Wainwright has teamed up with walkingworld.com and has over 100 walks across the country for people to choose from. The competition is running until Saturday 13th June, and runner-up prizes include 20 Thwaites Wainwright walking fleeces and 20 cases of Thwaites Wainwright.
