Explore the coast
Looking for a little inspiration for some last-minute coastal campaigning? Come discover some of the secrets of the south coast this weekend at the Lymington – Keyhaven nature reserve in the New Forest National Park. Starting on Sunday 2 May from 11am, the third annual spring wildlife day is your chance to meet some of the unusual and rare inhabitants of the New Forest coastline.
Visitors will have the opportunity to speak to wildlife experts about how to identify the creatures of this unique environment, including redshanks, oystercatchers and little egrets, insects such as butterflies and moths, and plants like the yellow horned poppy, sea purslane and thrift.
The day will also be filled with fun activities for all the family, which include guided walks, beach combing, stalls and talks by wildlife rangers, and is a joint event with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and Hampshire County Council. Jim Mitchell, Interpretation Officer at the New Forest National Park Authority, said: “This joint event is the perfect way to enjoy the New Forest coastline while learning about its inhabitants at the same time. You may walk this area often and this is a great opportunity to find out more about its special wildlife.”
