Future of Sherwood in public's hands
23/10/2007
Robin Hood's Forest home has made it through to the final stage of the BIG Lottery Fund's: The People's £50 Million contest.
Sherwood will now face three other projects in the UK in a public TV and on-line vote.
Sherwood: the Living Legend has also gained the backing of legendary actor Brian Blessed, who will appear in a TV documentary supporting Sherwood's bid as part of The People's £50 Million contest.
Austin Brady, Regional Director of the Forestry Commission East Midlands and Chair of the Sherwood: the Living Legend Project board, said: "The public now have a one off opportunity to secure Sherwood Forest's long term future.
"The project team and partners have worked hard to get the bid through to the final stage, we've seen off many worthy rivals to make it through to the all important, winner takes all vote. Ultimately it is the people who will decide Sherwood's fate.
"There has never been a project more worthy of national attention and investment. From an ecological point of view Sherwood is rare and precious, culturally it holds a unique place in the public consciousness - it is in every sense a Living Legend - so pledge your support today."
To pledge your support to Sherwood: the Living Legend and receive details of how to vote text Robin to 81025 (standard network rates) or register at robinhood.co.uk.
On line voting will start at 9am on Monday 26th November 2007. For more information about the Big Lottery Funds: The People's £50 Million contest visit www.thepeoples50million.org.uk
