E-walks revolution hits Wales

Llantwit Major in South Wales has been chosen as the testing ground for a pioneering project led by Ramblers Cymru to create the first in a new generation of walking guides using smartphone technology. The ‘e-Trails’ use mobile phones like the iPhone to bring up audio and video information from the web as you walk. Created with funding from Creative Rural Communities, themes include history, poetry and green lanes. The walks will eventually be uploaded to the Welsh Assembly-funded People’s Collection website – due to launch in August. Look out for more about e-Trails in the next issue of walk.
