Britain gets walking!

More than 3,000 people across Britain went strolling in the sun on 30 May 2009 as part of the Ramblers’ second national Get Walking Day. Over a hundred Ramblers groups led more than 150 short walks, including ones organised by the five Get Walking Keep Walking programmes. Supported by the Department of Health’s Change4Life campaign, among others, the aim was to inspire individuals and families to walk regularly, and it seemed to work: at least 1,500 people were walking with the Ramblers for the first time and many said how delighted they were with the day. The event also generated plenty of media coverage and even had the backing of more than 100 MPs who signed an Early Day Motion in favour of it. Next year’s event will be on the weekend of 24 May and will tie in with the Ramblers’ 75th anniversary celebrations. Save the date…
