Meindl Emotion XCR - easy walking (men's) £84.99
A 'sporty and robust' walking shoe, the Emotion was nominated Country Walking magazine's 'Best in Test 2006'. They feature a so-called double density 'Magic' semi-stiffened midsole with Kevlar® and carbon: sounds space-age, but provided good, downto- earth grip on a stroll around Shropshire's hills. The upper is a robust Gore-Tex®-lined combination of velour leather, rubber and nylon mesh that proved breathable and waterproof. The shoes are lightweight enough (880g) with a thick sole, which I found a tad too firm over longer distances. For me, the minimal torsion doesn't necessarily suit pedestrian walking, and having wide feet, I wasn't keen on the narrower fit; those with slimmer slabs may be.
