Keen Targhee men's
Keen Targhee - easy walking men's £84.99
I was predisposed to favour the Targhee as I'd already owned a pair of Keen's - specifically the predecessor to the Targhee - and they'd served me well. That is apart from two factors - the wear on the chosen leather, and the rubber toe protector which was brillant in terms of protecting my clumsy pinkies, but it also elicited a build-up of (if you're eating, look away), erm, toe sweat. This seeped out the edges of the toe protector creating an ugly black wet patch, and when dry, an even uglier white stain (toe salt, anyone?). Anyway, now I've made you queasy, I can tell you that the Targhee suffers no such problems with the evaporation of sweat, with channels of porous material letting it escape easily. The leather still scuffs and looks rather ragged after a good trouncing outdoors, but then these shoes are for use, not fashion. All up the Targhee is damn comfortable. The heel cup could be made a touch higher, just to negate the heel slippage I experienced and the price is on the high side against competitors. No other complaints - a definite comfort walker for city strolls and easy trails.
