+ A sturdy toe box and large rubber rand. The sole is highly flexible, well cushioned and gives excellent grip.
– The mix of features may not appeal to everyone.
VERDICT: Combines a flexible sole with strong support around the ankle that you’ll either love or hate.

I purchased a pair of the above boots and was amazed to see them given such a favourable review in my copy of walk magazine. Clearly your testers never really tried the boots in anything other than very dry conditions. Try and walk through wet grass, or splash through a shallow puddle and you will see what I mean. Despite a goretex lining the boots leak like seives and I would certainly NEVER have given them more than one star. Such poor testing brings your reviews into disrepute. Due to my supplier ceasing trading, I am currently struggling to get a refund on the boots.

I purchased a pair of calf leather Merrell walking boots some years ago. Although they were superbly comfortable the soleplate came away from the ‘upper’ after only 2 seasons light use. However as they were more than 18 months old Merrell refused any recompense at all despite the fact that the sole was hardly worn!
