Black’s Roc 35 Air daypack
Here’s the ‘Kit’ of the daypack brigade (c’mon, we all watched Knight Rider): sleek, black with lots of trick compartments. Given my continual frustration with top-loaders my favourite feature is the hidden zip for side access along the length of the main compartment, making it easy to find wet weather gear stuffed to the bottom without upending the entire contents. Six storage pockets, plus mesh holdalls either side, a good range of compression straps and hard-wearing material are pluses. Where it goes awry is the concave back system, ostensibly for the sweat factor. Fine. But the two-part steel pole construction is annoying: it kept popping out of its internal Velcro clipping, rendering it useless, and with any kind of decent load, weight distribution was top-heavy meaning it bounced around like a restless baby.
