“This was a tricky theme to tackle and many of the entries fell into the ‘good idea but not quite there’ category. The choice of winner might raise a few eyebrows in what was essentially a nature-based contest, but I thought it was a cut above the competition. The precise control of very difficult lighting conditions and the compositional use of the statue’s shadow make this image graphically very strong. The finishing touch is the starburst effect of the sun – excellent work.”
