Hadrians Wall National Trail Video Guide

Hadrians Wall National Trail Video GuidePresented by Anthony Burton £12.00

Presenter Anthony Burton is adept at describing landscapes, but he also knows that a good interpretive guide delves beneath the contours. His trick is to blend an eclectic selection of stories that dip in and out of the World Heritage Site's history and geography. Few guidebook authors, for example, have given more than a passing mention to that great 7th-century Northumbrian king, (later Saint) Oswald, or taken the time to explain the role of John Clayton of Chesters Roman Fort, the great 19th-century antiquarian who almost single-handedly saved the wall from destruction. He not only weaves into the walk the launch of the Mauretania and the development of the canals and railways, but the Jacobite rebellion gets a mention and sits comfortably alongside the wall's milecastles, forts and the Roman temple of Mithras. The videography would sell the film in its own right while the inherent conservation messages vital to the wall's preservation would no doubt meet Clayton's approval.
