Westfield Stratford City is I believe the third largest mall in the UK by retail floorspace-- but the biggest in the EU in terms of overall size! Whatever it is rather frightening, although worth exploring for such delights as the Lebanese deli and Tap East craft beer pub at the Stratford International end, which also tends to be a bit quieter.

Thanks for the lovely writeup Sarah and glad you enjoyed the walk. I'll probably get even more people along now!

Lordy - Westgate is only the 3rd largest retail space in the UK!! It certainly scared me as well (and I only went in search of the public loos) but it was a sunday and there was hardly anybody there.

Lesnes Abbey is well worth a look if only for the contrast of the medieval and the modern Thamesmead. I hope the bluebells are as spectacular as past years as unfortunately the drought looks to be effecting them this year.

Really got the flavour of this walk from the writing and enjoyed your tweets on the day.
