Best walking trouser

Gold: Páramo
Silver: Craghoppers
Bronze: Berghaus
A decent pair of trousers to protect your legs and keep you comfortable while you’re out on the hill is essential, and Páramo’s Cascade trousers (£112) achieve this admirably by actively pumping water – both rain and sweat – from the inside to the outside of the garment. There’s no need for over-trousers with these either. I’ve used them for years, and by renewing their waterproof qualities with a Nikwax reproofer in the washing machine they’re still going strong. Bear in mind they can get a touch too warm for year-round use, though. Minnie Burlton
