Walk Reader Awards 2010

This year‘s walk Reader Awards are bigger and better than ever, with brand-new categories, celebrity guests and some innovative newcomers joining your old favourites. The walk Reader Awards celebrate what you think is best: the clothes you wear; the kit you use; the routes you love; the best piece of walking advice you've ever been given; and most of all, acknowledge the people that inspire you and others to get out there and walk!

Winning a walk Reader Award is a major accolade within the walking industry, and to mark the high profile of this year‘s awards, the winners were announced by Simon King at the Outdoors Show Friday 26th March.

Dominic Bates, walk magazine‘s editor, welcomed over 150 guests to the awards, saying, “It‘s been a massive year for walk magazine. As many of you know, we re-launched the magazine last year with a new look and went on sale on the newsstand for the first time. We also launched a brand new website, and I‘d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support. I hope you like all the improvements we‘ve been making and you‘ve felt the benefits.”

Bafta and Emmy-winning filmmaker Simon King said, “What an honour to be here and involved in this presentation. The Walk Reader Awards have already established themselves as a very prestigious and notable award ceremony.”

The Ramblers CEO, Tom Franklin, then presented Walking celebrity of the year to surprise guest and soon-to-be Ramblers President Julia Bradbury, who excitedly accepted her award, saying, “To be voted as the Walking Celebrity of the Year by Walk readers is a real honour, and to be President of the Ramblers is obviously a very exciting moment. Walking is one of the wonderful free things we can do with our time.”

Other notable winners included Paramo, who scooped the award for Best Overall Walking Brand; Cotswold Outdoors, who won the Gold Medal for Best Nationwide Outdoors Retailer; and Whalley Warm & Dry who won the Gold Medal for Best Nationwide Independent Retailer.
